Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 0.75 oz fresh mint (+ more, optional for garnish)
  • 2 oz bourbon

Steps

    1. Prepare mint syrup. Combine sugar and water in small saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat, stir in mint, and let stand to cool. Strain mint syrup, discarding solids. Transfer to airtight container and chill overnight.
    2. Fill a julep cup with crushed ice; add bourbon and 1 tablespoon mint syrup. Stir rapidly to frost outside of cup.
    3. Garnish with mint, if desired.

    Steep fresh ginger in simple syrup before adding mint.

    Muddle lemon wedges, mint, and simple syrup in cocktail shaker. Add ice and bourbon. Shake well; strain into an ice-filled old fashioned glass and garnish with mint.
