White Barbecue Turkey Hoagies

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 cup crispy, french-fried onions
  • ⅔ cup white barbecue sauce (or peppercorn-ranch dressing)
  • 2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese, divided
  • 6 hoagie rolls

Steps

    1. Place oven rack in middle position; preheat broiler on HIGH. Preheat large sauté pan on medium-high 2–3 minutes. Place oil in pan; add turkey and cook 5–6 minutes, stirring to crumble, until no pink remains and turkey is 165°F. Remove pan from heat. Stir in onions, barbecue sauce, and 1 cup cheese until blended.
    2. Slice open rolls (if needed). Fill rolls with even amounts turkey mixture; place on baking sheet. Top evenly with remaining 1 cup cheese. Broil 3–4 minutes until cheese has melted and lightly browned. Serve.
Other Preparation Methods
    • Grill: Preheat grill (or grill pan) on medium. Combine 1 lb ground turkey with 1 cup grated apple, 1 cup trinity mix, and 2 teaspoons each garam marsala and salt. Form into 12 slider patties (wash hands). Grill 3–4 minutes on each side until 165°F. Top each patty with 1 tablespoon mango chutney and place on buns.
    • Bake: Preheat oven to 400°F. Combine 1 lb ground turkey with 1 large egg, 1 cup panko bread crumbs, and 2 teaspoons each poultry seasoning and salt. Form into meatloaf; place in loaf pan (wash hands) and top with ½ cup gravy. Bake 30–40 minutes until 165°F.
