Ingredients
- ½ oz tequila
- ¾ oz lime juice
- ¾ oz simple syrup
- 1 oz dry red wine (such as cabernet sauvignon)
Steps
- Fill cocktail shaker with ice; add all ingredients (except wine).
- Shake well; strain into a margarita glass.
- Float wine on top of drink.*
* To float wine, set spoon at a 45° angle, barely placed inside drink, with back of spoon facing away from drink. Place finger slightly over opening of wine bottle and pour wine slowly onto back of spoon, letting it drizzle onto surface of drink.

For a sweeter drink, moisten rim of glass and dip in sugar before filling.
Make it a Southern-style margarita.
Add a splash of orange juice and ½ oz orange liqueur in step 1.
