Ingredients

  • Aluminum foil
  • 1 loaf Bakery Tutto Cheese Medley bread
  • 1 large plum tomato
  • 1 small red onion
  • ¼ cup mild banana pepper rings
  • ½ head iceberg lettuce
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic stir-in paste
  • 4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 6 oz Deli Italian variety pack sliced meat (prosciutto, salami, and capicola)
  • 2 oz thin-sliced ham
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Steps

    1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line baking sheet with foil. Halve bread lengthwise; remove some of the inside of the bread (reserve for another use). Slice tomato lengthwise, then into strips. Slice onion thinly (about ⅓ cup). Drain and chop banana peppers. Shred lettuce (2 cups).
    2. Place vinegar, oregano, salt, pepper, red pepper (if using), garlic paste, 2 tablespoons oil, and mayonnaise in large bowl; whisk to blend.
    3. Place bottom half bread on prepared baking sheet. Arrange variety pack deli meat and ham evenly on bread; top evenly with provolone. Coat inside of top half bread with remaining 2 tablespoons oil; place oil-side up on baking sheet. Bake 10–12 minutes until sandwich is hot, cheese has melted, and bread is toasted.
    4. Place lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, and onions in bowl with vinegar dressing, toss to coat well. Arrange salad on top of melted cheese; complete sandwich with top half bread. Cut sandwich into 8 slices and serve.

Chef's Tip: Use 6-inch skewers to secure sandwich while cutting and serving.
