Ingredients
For Spiced Chocolate Cocoa Mix
- 3 cups powdered milk
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon ground red pepper (optional)
- 2 ¼ cups decorative sprinkles
- 4 ½ cups mini chocolate morsels
- 9 cups mini marshmallows
For Snowman Truffle Straws
- 18 white chocolate truffles
- 4 tablespoons light corn syrup
- ½ cup sweetened coconut flakes (optional)
- ½ cup decorative sprinkles
- 18 decorative straws (or wooden coffee stirrers)
- 1 tube black icing
- 1 tube orange icing
Steps
- For Spiced Chocolate Cocoa Mix
- Combine powdered milk, cocoa, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground red pepper (if using); whisk until blended. Divide cocoa mixture evenly among 18 (14 oz) mugs (about ¼ cup per glass).
- Layer each glass of cocoa evenly in this order: 2 tablespoons sprinkles, ¼ cup chocolate morsels, and ½ cup marshmallows. (Divide cocoa mix and toppings in half to make 36 (8 oz) mugs.)
- Score one end of each truffle with paring knife. Brush scored end of each truffle with corn syrup, then coat corn syrup end with coconut (if using) and sprinkles.
- Pinch one end of each straw; gently push pinched end of straw through scored end of truffle. Decorate truffle with black icing for "coal" eyes and smile and orange icing for a "carrot" nose. Place truffle straws in mugs of cocoa mix; decorate as gifts. Add instructions for preparation of hot cocoa (below).
- Bring 10–12 ounces (per mug) of water to a simmer in medium saucepan on medium.
- Add warm liquid to mugs; stir 1 minute or until chocolate morsels and marshmallows begin to melt. Stir in snowman truffle (if desired). Enjoy!
