8 servings
2 1/2 hours total (Active 10 minutes)

Ingredients

  • 2 lb Ambrosia apples
  • 1 (12.25 oz) jar caramel sundae topping
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice (or ground cinnamon)
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Steps

    1. Grate apples on box grater (large holes; about 5 cups). Place apples, caramel topping, apple pie spice, and salt in slow cooker.
    2. Cook on HIGH 2–2 ½ hours (or LOW 4–4 ½ hours) until mixture is thick. Serve warm (or chill 1 hour).
Chef's Tip: To make apple butter, remove lid and cook 1 ½ more hours or until apples are browned and mixture is very smooth.
Other Preparation Methods
    • Dessert: Whisk 8 oz softened cream cheese, ½ cup caramel dip or sauce, and 3 cups thawed whipped topping until blended. Combine 3 cups diced apples, ⅔ cup chopped salted-caramel pretzels, and pecan praline; fold into cream cheese mixture.
    • Appetizer: Core and slice 2 apples into ¼-inch discs. Combine Publix Deli Chunky Chicken Salad with 1 teaspoon curry powder and ½ cup each dried cranberries and chopped pecans. Place 2 tablespoons on top of each apple disc.
