Pan-Fried Mozzarella

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz) Deli fresh mozzarella cheese log
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs (or ½ cup egg substitute)
  • 1 cup seasoned bread crumbs
  • ⅓ cup canola oil
  • 1 cup marinara sauce

Steps

    1. Cut cheese into ½-inch-thick rounds. Place cornstarch in shallow dish, beat eggs in second shallow dish, and place bread crumbs in third shallow dish. Dip cheese in cornstarch, coating both sides, then dip into eggs, letting excess drip off. Dredge in bread crumbs (wash hands). Freeze cheese 30 minutes.
    2. Preheat oil in large sauté pan on medium-high 2–3 minutes. Add cheese to pan; cook 2–3 minutes on each side until browned. Heat marinara to serve on the side.
Other Preparation Methods
    • Bake: Halve French bread lengthwise; top cut sides with pizza sauce, sliced fresh mozzarella, and your favorite pizza toppings. Bake 15 minutes at 425°F for quick and easy French bread pizzas.
    • Salad: Toss cubed fresh mozzarella with sliced olives; chopped pepperoncini; diced salami;; halved cherry tomatoes; cooked, chilled tortellini; and Italian dressing for a Mediterranean-style pasta salad.
