Ingredients

  • For burgers:
  • 1 small yellow onion
  • 2 lb ground chuck
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices thick American cheese
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 4 Bakery hamburger buns
  • 8 slices cooked bacon
  • For costumes:
  • 4 slices thick American cheese
  • 8 pitted black olives
  • 1 red pimiento pepper
  • 8 sport peppers
  • Toppings such as lettuce, onions, and tomatoes (optional)
  • 4 sandwich-slice pickles

Steps

    1. Make burgers. Preheat grill (or grill pan) on medium-high. Chop onion finely (¼ cup). Mix ground chuck, onions, and Worcestershire sauce until just combined. Divide into 8 equal portions and form into thin patties. Place 1 cheese slice each on 4 of the patties; top with remaining patties and pinch edges to form tight seal (wash hands). Season with salt and pepper.
    2. Place burgers on grill; cook 3–4 minutes on each side until 160°F. Remove from grill and let stand 5 minutes to rest.
    3. Toast buns. Heat bacon following package instructions.
    4. Make costumes. Slice pimiento into 8 pieces, then place pieces into olives. Place 1 olive and 1 pepper on each cocktail skewer for eyes.
    5. Cut jagged edges on remaining 4 cheese slices and arrange on burgers to resemble teeth. Assemble burgers by placing toppings on buns, if using. Arrange pickles so they hang off buns for tongues, then top with burgers and bacon; use prepared skewers to complete.
