Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz light rum
  • ½ oz lime juice
  • ½ oz triple sec
  • ¼ oz simple syrup
  • ¼ oz amaretto
  • ¾ oz dark rum
  • Lime wedge (optional for garnish)
  • Pineapple spear (optional for garnish)

Steps

    1. Fill cocktail shaker with ice; add light rum, lime juice, triple sec, simple syrup, and amaretto.
    2. Shake well; strain into an ice-filled rocks glass.
    3. Float dark rum on top. Garnish with lime and pineapple, if desired.

Other Preparation Methods

      Make it a Planters Punch.
      Substitute orange juice for the triple sec and add a splash or two of grenadine.

      Make it a melon Mai Tai.
      Add all ingredients (except garnishes) plus ½ cup diced watermelon to blender. Blend on high until no chunks remain; pour into an ice-filled highball or Collins glass; add garnishes.
