Ingredients

  • 2 oz whiskey
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz dry red wine (such as cabernet sauvignon)
  • Lemon peel (optional for garnish)

Steps

    1. Fill cocktail shaker with ice; add whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
    2. Shake well; strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Float wine over drink.*
    3. Garnish with lemon peel, curled to look a claw, if desired.

    *To float wine, set spoon at a 45° angle, barely placed inside drink, with back of spoon facing away from drink. Place finger slightly over opening of wine bottle and pour wine slowly onto back of spoon, letting it drizzle onto surface of drink.

Other Preparation Methods

      Make it a little more refreshing.
      Reduce the lemon juice to ½ oz and add ½ oz orange juice.
