Garlic Naan Bread
10 servings
1 hour 30 minutes total (Active 30 minutes)

Ingredients

  • 1 (¼ oz) packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (115°F), divided
  • 5 cups flour (+more as needed)
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 6 tablespoons plain, nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large egg
  • Cooking spray
  • Plastic wrap
  • 4 tablespoons ghee
  • 4 cloves garlic

Steps

    1. Combine in small bowl: yeast, sugar, and ¼ cup warm until blended. Let stand 5–10 minutes or until foamy.
    2. Place in bowl of stand mixer: 5 cups flour, salt, baking powder, yogurt, oil, egg, yeast mixture, and remaining ¾ cup warm water. Knead dough 3–4 minutes, using hook attachment on medium-low, until dough is soft and slightly sticky.
    3. Lightly coat large mixing bowl with spray; transfer dough to greased bowl, and coat dough lightly with spray. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let stand 1 hour in a warm place for dough to rise. (Dough should double in size.)
    4. Uncover bowl and punch down dough; transfer dough to a lightly floured work surface. Divide dough into 10 equal balls; roll each ball into ¼-inch-thick (5-inch) round pieces.
    5. Heat grill (or grill pan) on medium-high for 4–5 minutes. Heat ghee and garlic in small saucepan on medium; reduce heat to medium-low and cook 2–3 minutes until fragrant. Coat grill and dough rounds with cooking spray; grill 1–2 minutes per side until browned. Brush with garlic butter; serve.
