Ingredients

  • 2 ripe Hass avocados
  • 2 limes, for juice
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 medium tomato
  • ½ small red onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro
  • Tortilla chips, optional

Steps

    1. Halve avocados, discard pits, and scoop flesh into medium bowl. Juice limes (2 tablespoons). Add lime juice, salt, and pepper to bowl with avocados. Mash with fork until desired texture.
    2. Chop tomato (½ cup), onion (⅓ cup), and garlic finely. Chop cilantro coarsely. Stir tomatoes, onions, garlic, and cilantro into avocado mixture.
    3. Chill 30 minutes; serve with chips, if using. (Makes about 3 cups.)
Other Preparation Methods
    • Bake: Preheat oven to 400°F. Halve 1 ripe Hass avocado; scoop out flesh and cut into 8 wedges. Coat with 1 tablespoon oil and ¼ teaspoon each salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper. Arrange in baking dish; bake 20–25 minutes until edges are golden. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice.
    • Sauce: Halve 2 ripe Hass avocados and scoop flesh into food processor bowl; add 1 tablespoon lime juice, 1 ½ bunches fresh cilantro, ¼ cup sour cream, and ½ teaspoon complete seasoning. Process until smooth. Serve over cooked chicken, beef, or pork.
