Caramel Apple Rose Tart
12 servings
1 hour, 20 minutes total (Active 25 minutes)

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 1 refrigerated rolled piecrust
  • 1 lemon, for juice
  • 3 medium Gala apples (about 2 lb)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice (or cinnamon)
  • ½ cup dulce de leche
  • ⅛ teaspoon kosher salt
  • Vanilla ice cream, optional for serving

Steps

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat 10-inch tart pan with spray. Unroll piecrust and place in pan. Press into bottom and up sides, removing any overhang, then pierce all over with fork. Bake 5 minutes, then remove from oven.
    2. Meanwhile, juice lemon (2 tablespoons). Peel apples if desired, then core, quarter (or halve), and cut into ⅛-inch-thick slices. Place apple slices in large bowl, add lemon juice, and toss to coat. Combine flour, sugar, and apple pie spice; add to bowl and stir to coat apples evenly. Reserve 8 apple slices.
    3. Spread dulce de leche evenly in bottom of crust, then sprinkle with salt. Arrange layer of apple slices, core side down, along edge of crust, overlapping slightly. Repeat layering apples in second circle, slightly overlapping first. Continue layering until you reach center of crust. Arrange reserved apple slices on work surface, slightly overlapping. Roll up to form spiral, then place in center of tart.
    4. Bake 30–40 minutes until apples are tender. Let stand 10 minutes to rest. Slice and serve with ice cream, if using.

Do not eat raw dough/batter.
