Asian-Style Gefilte Fish Patties

Ingredients

  • 3 green onions
  • ¼ bunch fresh cilantro
  • 2 limes, for zest/wedges
  • 1 (24 oz) jar gefilte fish
  • 2 tablespoons ginger stir-in paste
  • 2 tablespoons garlic stir-in paste
  • 2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 ½ cups panko bread crumbs, divided
  • ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds, divided
  • ½ cup canola oil
  • ½ cup spicy mayonnaise

Steps

    1. Slice green onions thinly; chop cilantro coarsely. Zest limes (2 teaspoons), then cut into 8 wedges each; drain gefilte fish. Combine in large bowl: onions, cilantro, gefilte fish, ginger paste, garlic paste, soy sauce, 1 cup bread crumbs, ¼ cup sesame seeds, and lime zest. Mix well and form into 16 equal patties.
    2. Combine remaining ½ cup bread crumbs and 2 tablespoons sesame seeds; coat patties with mixture.
    3. Heat oil in large, nonstick sauté pan on medium 2–3 minutes. Add patties (in batches) and cook 2–3 minutes on each side until golden and 165°F. Serve with lime wedges and spicy mayonnaise.
