Air Fryer Churros with Spiced Chocolate Sauce
12 servings
30 minutes total

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons + ½ cup sugar, divided
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • Cooking spray
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (8 oz) jar fudge (or chocolate) sauce
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • ⅛ teaspoon chipotle powder (optional)

Steps

    1. Place water, butter, 2 tablespoons sugar, and salt in large saucepan on medium-high. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low. Add flour and stir continuously 1 minute or until mixture is blended, shiny, and smooth. Remove from pan and place in large bowl to cool.
    2. Coat baking sheet with spray. Add egg and vanilla to bowl and beat with electric mixer until blended and smooth. Transfer mixture to piping bag (or large zip-top bag) fitted with ½-inch star tip. Pipe 24 (4-inch-long) churros onto baking sheet, cutting dough with kitchen shears to release from bag; coat churros with spray.
    3. Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Use spatula to arrange churros ½ inch apart in air fryer basket (in batches). Cook 8–10 minutes until golden, shaking basket halfway through cook time.
    4. Meanwhile, heat chocolate sauce following package instructions. Pour into bowl; whisk in ¼ teaspoon cinnamon and chipotle powder, if using. Keep warm.
    5. Combine remaining ½ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Remove churros from basket and coat with cinnamon sugar. Repeat with remaining churros. Serve with chocolate sauce.
Note: Air fryers vary; adjust time as needed.

Chef's Tip: You can chill, then freeze churros in zip-top bag after air frying. Thaw 30 minutes before continuing with steps 4 and 5.
