Product details Wente Family Vineyards Louis Mel Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, vibrant white wine rooted in a legacy of innovation. Named for French emigrant Louis Mel, who brought prized Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon cuttings to California's Livermore Valley in the 1800s, this wine honors a pioneering spirit. The Wente family acquired Mel's estate in the 1940s and continued cultivating these historic vines–so significant that UC Davis selected vineyard material to develop Sauvignon Blanc FPS 01, now the most widely planted Sauvignon Blanc clone in the world. Cold fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel, this Sauvignon Blanc showcases a bright, mineral-driven style. Aromas of grapefruit and guava are layered with key lime and a subtle grassy note. On the palate, vibrant Meyer lemon and candied citrus are supported by crisp acidity and a long, mouthwatering finish defined by purity and precision. As a certified sustainable winery and vineyard, Wente Family Vineyards is committed to soil health, water stewardship, biodiversity, and renewable energy–ensuring each bottle reflects both its terroir and a dedication to future generations. Elegant and versatile, Louis Mel Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with lemon-caper scallops, white wine–poached halibut, or aged gouda and parmesan, showcasing the best of California winemaking heritage.
