Finding the Oil Temperature: Oil temperature is a key factor in the process of cooking the buñuelos. In order to test the oil please follow these instructions: Drop a small ball of dough into the oil once it is hot. The dough should sink to the bottom and rise in 10-15 seconds. This means the ideal temperature has been achieved. If the dough rises in less than 10 seconds, then the oil is too hot, and the temperature should be lowered. If the dough takes longer than 15 seconds, then the oil is still cool, and a higher temperature is required. Tips: Drop buñuelos one at a time by placing them when the previous one has risen or surfaced. Too many at the same time can lower the temperature of the oil. Make sure to leave enough space between each one so they have space to grow. To prepare Goya Bunuelos you will need: 1 box of Goya Bunuelos; 4 cups of fresh ground cheese, preferably a hard cheese (Cotija); 1 egg; Water/milk as required*. Directions: 1. In a medium size bowl mix together the content of this package with 4 cups of fresh ground cheese and 1 egg. Continue mixing until a soft dough is formed adding water or milk as needed. The dough should not be sticky. Do not knead the dough too much. Using a tablespoon, scoop dough into hands and shape it into small balls. 2. In a pot or fryer pour enough oil to cover the small balls and heat at high temperature (145 degrees C/293 degrees F). Once ready (*see side panel) add balls to oil one at a time. Leave enough space between balls, turning them occasionally. 3. When the fritters are golden brown/red (about 10-12 minutes), transfer them to paper towel-lined plate to drain. Serve warm. *The amount of water or milk will depend on the cheese. Store in a clean and dry place.
