Product details Virginia historic landmark. 1814 Barboursville Ruins. Designed by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson's Dream: Thomas Jefferson, a great lover of wine, with the assistance of Italian viticulturist, Filippo Mazzei, made an attempt to establish a vineyard in Virginia. Two centuries later vitis vinifera planting were successfully established at Barboursville Vineyards located on the former plantation of Governor James Barbour whose mansion was designed by his close friend Thomas Jefferson. The mansion, destroyed by fire on Christmas Day 1884, now preserved as ruins, is a Virginia historic landmark. A dry white wine with delicate citrus and pear aromas. Light crisp acidity with apple, pear and fig flavors. A simple yet elegant wine for light hors d'oeuvres, simply prepared seafoods and poultry. Alcohol 12.50% by vol. Produced and bottled by Barboursville Vineyards, Barboursville Virginia.
