Does it seem that your little one is hungry all the time? Tiny tummies aren't big enough to store the amount of food needed for energy between meals. That's why most toddlers need morning and afternoon snacks. Keep them fueled with these ideas.

1. Whole Grain Snack Mix

Start with low-sugar, whole grain cereals and add some bite-size, whole wheat crackers. Serve mix in a plastic bowl or toddler snack cup with a lid—the smaller opening slows down snacking and reduces spills.

2. Waffle Sandwich

Spread multigrain toaster waffles with a little peanut butter or almond butter and mashed banana. Stack them to make a sandwich, then cut into bite-size pieces.

3. Avocado Delight

Mash avocado with a little lime juice or lemon juice and salt. Spread the avocado mixture between slices of whole wheat bread and cut into bite-size pieces.

4. Pancake Sticks

Next time pancakes are on the breakfast menu, make a double batch and freeze the extras in a plastic freezer bag. Cut thawed pancakes into strips with a pizza cutter. Serve plain, or with a side of applesauce for dipping.

5. Nut Butter Bites

Combine pitted dates, creamy nut butter, a drizzle of honey, and rolled oats in a food processor and blend until ingredients are processed and mixture holds together. Form into bars and cut into bite-size pieces.

6. Smoothies

Make a smoothie with low-fat or fat-free milk, vanilla low-fat yogurt, banana, and ice. If you're looking to add more veggies to your toddler's diet, blend in a handful of washed baby spinach.
