Keeping Fleas and Ticks Away
Warm weather usually brings fun outdoor activities for you and your pet. That’s why we’ve prepared a quick How-To Guide to keep those pesky fleas and ticks off your pet and nowhere near your home!
Did you know that 95% of the flea population is actually in the environment, and not on your pet? Under ideal conditions, one tiny pair of fleas could produce thousands of descendants. (Yikes!) And it would only take them 14 days to go from egg to fully-grown adult.
If you’re running behind on spring cleaning your home—this might be the perfect reason to get it done.
- Cleaning your house is probably the most effective way to control flea and tick populations in your home.
- Make sure you wash all of your pet’s bedding with hot, soapy water.
- Vacuum carpets, rugs, and sofa cushions thoroughly and often, including corners and crevices. (They love hiding in them!)
- Finally, dispose of the vacuum cleaner bag in your outside trash container after each cleaning session.
Publix offers preventive products against fleas and ticks down the pet aisle. But as you can see, being a little proactive—while still enjoying the outdoors with your furbabies—is the best way to keep those little critters away.
