DIY Paw Print Ornament

diy christmas ornament

Get crafty with your pets during the holidays with these easy instructions

What you’ll need:

  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 2 cups ground cinnamon
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Straw
  • String, twine, or ribbon

  1. To get started, preheat your oven to 200°.
  2. In a bowl, mix together equal parts cinnamon and applesauce until well incorporated and forms into a smooth dough. If it is sticky, add a little more cinnamon. If it is dry, add a little more applesauce.
  3. Knead the dough and then between two pieces of parchment paper roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
  4. Cut dough into shapes with cookie cutters and place them on a baking sheet.
  5. Press your pet’s paw into the dough.
  6. Place each ornament onto an ungreased baking sheet with a sheet of parchment paper and use the straw to make a small hole right above the paw print.
  7. Bake in the oven for 2 hours. Remove, then allow to cool on a cooling rack for at least 24 hours.
  8. Tie your string through the hole at the top and hang on your tree (high enough to avoid snack temptation).
  9. Makes about 18 ornaments, depending on size.

Remember, these are not treats to give to your pets to eat; they’re works of art to admire. You’ll find lots of goodies, snacks, and more holiday pet gift ideas in our pet aisle.
