All They Want Fur Christmas

girl holding pug puppy

All they want for Christmas is… exactly what they already have: to be cherished members of your family! But like any other family member, they're sure to appreciate the extra-special things you do for them during the holidays.

1. Decorate with them in mind.

Show guests at a glance: "Pet-lovers live here!"

  • Find tree ornaments crafted to look like your pets' breeds. Better yet, create personalized ornaments using their names and photos.
  • Make or purchase stockings for your pets. Hang them with the rest of the family's and fill them with treats and toys.
  • The holiday-themed sweater is a time-honored tradition for humans. Why shouldn't dogs and cats enjoy snazzy holiday-themed accessories? Suggestions include bowls, collars, leashes, and yes, sweaters.

2. Bake homemade treats.

While you're baking cookies for family and friends, bake your pets some treats of their own! There are many recipes available online for homemade pet treats.

  • Be aware of their allergies prior to introducing new foods.
  • Don't forget to leave a treat or two for Santa's reindeer!

3. Do something special together.

If you're looking forward to spending time off with your family at this time of year, remember to include your pets!

  • Get holiday-themed photos together. Santa Claus may not mind getting his picture taken with your pets as well as your kids. Or, if your pets are shy around even the jolliest of strangers, get them to pose at home with the family.
  • Make sure they get their exercise. Dog owners, take Fido on a long walk to admire the lights in your neighborhood, or squeeze in an extra trip to the dog park. Cat owners, spend some time playing with Fluffy and her new toys.
  • Remember, the greatest gift you can give your pets is your affection. So relax, settle in with Fido and Fluffy for a holiday-themed movie, and enjoy some very merry quality time together.
