Our Favorite On-the-Go Wines for Summer Entertaining

people laughing and drinking portable wines

Wherever you’re heading, whatever the occasion, wine can be part of the summertime fun. Ditch the corkscrews, glassware, and breakable containers and pick up one of these four portable options. With multiple ways to enjoy your wine, everyone can sip (and serve) exactly what they want.

Wine in a Carton

portable winesWhat is it?
Banish what you think you know about boxed wine. Small 500-ml cartons (that’s 16.9 fluid ounces, or just a little more than a pint) maximize portability with lightweight, leakproof TetraPak paper—the same packaging used for juice and almond milk.

Where to drink it?
Easily stackable and packable, cartons are great for transporting long distances and serving at gatherings. Try them at picnics, barbecues, or weekend trips to the beach or lake.

Publix Recommends: Vendange Pinot Grigio
A refreshingly fruity pinot grigio, this white wine hits the palate with fresh green apple and citrus flavor notes and finishes clean and bright.

Wine in a Can

portable wines What is it?
The wine world has borrowed a few cues from the beer world. Quickly chillable, easily recyclable aluminum cans keep wine fresh and fizzy without loss of oxidation or a need for corking.

Where to drink it?
When paired with a can cooler, cans keep cool even in the heat of the afternoon or evening. Take on camping or hiking trips, to the beach or lake, and to outdoor music festivals.

Publix Recommends: Flip Flop Fizzy Pink Moscato
This blush sparkling wine leans toward the sweet side, blending honeyed floral notes with tropical fruit and strawberry flavor notes.

Wine in Single-Serving Bottles

portable wines What is it?
These are truly single-serving bottles. Each bottle holds 187 ml, or a generous 6-ounce pour. But despite their size, a four-pack of these mini screw-top bottles doesn’t skimp on total volume (they contain the same amount as a full-size bottle). Bonus: Despite their small size, these scaled-down bottles don’t sacrifice wine flavors.

Where to drink it?
Don’t want to uncork and pour multiple bottles of wine for guests with different wine preferences? Mini bottles make it easy to have a “buffet” of casual drinks at your next outdoor gathering.

Publix Recommends: Woodbridge Chardonnay
Vibrant citrus, ripe peach, and elegant floral notes hit the palate, while a hint of spice and toast round out this smooth chardonnay.

Sparklers in Single-Serving Bottles

portable wines What is it?
Don’t worry about letting leftover bubbly go flat—there’s no concern for leftovers when you have single-serving bottles. Sometimes known as “splits,” many have twist-off plastic tops to keep the fizz contained without the need for corkscrews or champagne openers.

Where to drink it?
Bring a few bottles to your next al fresco BYOB party or brunch. Hosting a shower or friends-only night? Keep a tub’s worth on ice and serve with straws.

Publix Recommends: La Marca Prosecco
Fresh, fizzy flavor notes of pear, green apple, and citrus are enhanced by delicate lily aromas in this pale, crisply sweet prosecco.
