When a hurricane strikes, it's important to be prepared. Publix is committed to helping its customers understand, plan for, and weather the storm. Because the only thing worse than being in a hurricane, is being unprepared for one. Preparing for the Storm Developing a plan is one of the most basic (and important) things you can do to prepare for hurricane season—and a storm. That's why we've teamed up with OneStorm, a site that can give you the knowledge and confidence you need to ensure your family's safety. In about 20 minutes at OneStorm, you can make a free, personalized plan. Turn to OneStorm's Hurricane Education Center to find essential information on many topics from explaining hurricanes to children to preparing your home.
In case of a storm, you'll need enough supplies and nonperishable foods to last two weeks. Print out the checklists below and take them with you when you shop. This is also a good time to check prescriptions and get them refilled. This ensures you and your family have just what you need to weather the storm.
After the Storm Even though the storm’s over, there are still a lot of things you need to know. You’ll want to remain indoors until you’re given official notice that it’s okay to venture outside, and when you do, you’ll want to stay away from trees (and other objects) that have come in contact with power lines. You’ll also need to know about food and water safety, such as what you need to throw out and how to disinfect your water.
