Health Screenings

Health Screenings

When it comes to your health, sometimes what you don't know can hurt you. This is why Publix Pharmacy offers a variety of health screenings to help identify those who may be at risk for certain illnesses. Publix Pharmacy offers screenings for diabetes, cholesterol, and blood pressure.

Diabetes Screening

The number of people with diabetes is growing, and the most common form – type 2 diabetes – mainly affects adults. By the time most people are diagnosed with diabetes, they've already had it for several years. Diabetes is the result of high blood sugar (or glucose). If you're blood sugar remains high over time, it can increase your risk of blindness, heart disease, kidney disease and amputations. Several factors can increase your risk for developing diabetes including excess weight, abnormal cholesterol levels, physical inactivity and high blood pressure. Additional risk factors may be age, family history and ethnicity.

In our commitment to helping people manage diabetes, Publix Pharmacy offers FREE diabetes screenings in partnership with CholestCheck, a health screening services company. Additional optional screening tests (such as cholesterol and thyroid tests) are available for purchase during the event, and all results are available within 5 minutes. Our schedule for the next quarter's Diabetes Screening is currently being finalized. Check back soon for more information, or visit your neighborhood Publix Pharmacy for additional details.

Cholesterol Screening

Publix Pharmacies offering
Cholesterol Screening services

High cholesterol. You can't feel it, see it or hear it. But when your cholesterol sneaks up above a desirable level, it puts you at an increased risk for a heart attack and other heart diseases. Several things can increase your risk for developing high cholesterol including a high fat and cholesterol diet, lack of physical activity and smoking. Additional risk factors may be age, other medical conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure and family history.

Stop by or call your neighborhood Publix Pharmacy and ask if this service is available there. Or you can click below to see if they offer this service. If so, make an appointment with the pharmacist to find out if your cholesterol level is healthy. The screening takes less than five minutes, and your Publix pharmacist will also assess your risk for heart disease and provide you with valuable information you can use to help lower your risk.

Publix Pharmacy offers the following Cholesterol Screenings at select locations:
  • Total Lipid Profile: fasting screening (Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, and glucose)  $20
  • Total Cholesterol & HDL: non-fasting screening $15

Blood Pressure Screening

High blood pressure is another illness that is often not felt, and if left untreated it can lead to strokes and heart attacks.  Factors that increase your risk for heart disease include obesity, smoking, physical inactivity, age and family history.

All Publix Pharmacies offer free blood pressure screenings using automated machines.  We encourage you to talk with your Publix Pharmacist about your blood pressure readings.  Your Publix Pharmacist can also assess your risk for heart disease and provide you with valuable information to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.
