Physician Information

Publix Dietitian Services

Simplify nutrition with the guidance of an in-store dietitian. Publix Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) provide personalized care designed to educate and support patients managing obesity, diabetes, and heart conditions. Our Publix Pharmacists can also administer important health screenings, such as blood glucose, cholesterol, and A1C tests, to check the patient’s progress over time.

The following programs at Publix include meal planning, shopping assistance, and follow-up counseling:

Medical Nutrition Therapy*

Patients may qualify for services reimbursement with select insurance plans.

Medicare Part B patients who have been diagnosed with diabetes or chronic kidney disease (but are not currently on dialysis), or who have had a kidney transplant in the last 36 months, may qualify for three hours of medical nutrition therapy. To take advantage of this coverage, a physician must also recommend medical nutrition therapy to the patient and refer them to a Publix dietitian.

Who is covered?

Eligible Medicare Part B beneficiaries when the following are true:

  • A patient receives a physician referral.
  • A patient is diagnosed with diabetes or renal disease, or has received a kidney transplant within the last three years.
  • Referred services will be provided by a registered dietitian or nutrition professional.

What types of services are covered?

The first year a patient is diagnosed, they may qualify for:

  • One initial counseling session (one hour).
  • Four follow-up counseling sessions (30 minutes each).

In subsequent years, they may qualify for up to two combined hours of follow-up counseling sessions (30 minutes each).

What does Medicare Part B cover?

  • Co-payment/coinsurance is waived.
  • Deductible is waived.
