Looking for less fat? There’s a Better Choice for that.

Less Fat, Simplified

If you’re trying to lower your saturated fat intake, Publix can help. We've made it easier than ever to identify foods that have more of the nutrients you need, like fiber, and less of the things you don’t need, like saturated fat, or added sodium, or added sugar. Just look for the green Better Choice tags throughout the store that identify which products in a particular category, like sliced cheese, offer lower-fat options for you.

Why consume less saturated fat?

sandwichFor years, consumers have followed low-fat diets as ways to improve health. Unfortunately, low-fat diets may have unintended consequences when they turn people toward foods high in added sugar, sodium, and refined grains. Research has found that the type of fat, not just overall fat content, matters. Saturated fats should be replaced with unsaturated fats, which are associated with reduced blood levels of total cholesterol and of low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL cholesterol), as well as a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease events. The USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend limiting saturated fat intake to less than 10 percent of calories per day.

Publix nutritionists identify better choices.

less fat shelf tag

Do you pore over labels trying to decide which products best suit your nutrition goals? The experts at Publix have made it easier for you. Using the latest scientific research, including the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, Publix registered dietitian nutritionists have compared groups of similar products, like cereal, for example. Those items with a Better Choice tag have more of the nutrients you need, like fiber, and less of the things you don't need, like saturated fat, or added sodium, or added sugar. It's all at a glance, just for you.
