Publix Nutrition Facts
Discover important nutrition information right on the shelf.
Publix wants to help you make smart food choices. That's why we've developed a special storewide nutritional shelf-tag program. Just take a look around your neighborhood Publix, and in almost every department, you'll see that we've highlighted certain foods that are especially healthy.
Each shelf tag clearly displays important nutrition information, and indicates what makes a particular food a good choice. Whether you're watching calories, cholesterol, fat, sodium, or sugar, our standards are consistent across brands and categories. So, "very low sodium" means the same level of sodium whether the product is yogurt or pineapple chunks.
Definitions at a Glance Publix nutritional tags provide information on the nutrients in a food product. Nutrient criteria for these shelf tags are based on FDA labeling criteria and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Dietary Guidelines For Americans, 2005 The Dietary Guidelines are based on scientific research and endorsed by the U.S. Government. These guidelines are intended for healthy adults and children age two and older.
A healthy eating plan is one that: - Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products
- Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs and nuts
- Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium) and added sugars
In addition, the Guidelines also recommend that you complement your healthy diet with other healthy lifestyle habits. Try to be physically active each day. If you drink alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation. And aim to maintain a healthy weight. A smart diet and exercise plan will reduce your risk for certain chronic diseases such as osteoporosis, certain types of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and stroke and help you look and feel your best.
