From the Heart

From "Be mine" to "I'm stuck on you," there are countless ways to express your affection on Valentine's Day. However you choose to say it, share the fun with a card-making party for kids.

Party Prep
Gear up for a sweet celebration by stocking up on fun materials kids find hard to resist.

  • Set the stage for the party by having your child design and send handmade invitations.
  • Create several stations stocked with enough supplies for about four to five kids each.
  • Provide an assortment of colored construction paper, doilies, markers, glitter, glue, rickrack, brads, ribbon, buttons and yarn—and don't be bashful about using any leftover materials you have.
  • Precut some of the hearts and other card-making materials before guests arrive to make things easier for younger children.
  • Size the cards to fit envelopes, or buy matching prefolded cards and envelopes.

Card-Making Ideas
These suggestions help kids craft one-of-a-kind valentines they'll proudly show off:

  • Supply heart-shape stencils to make drawing and coloring easier for younger guests.
  • Invest in several 1- and 2-inch heart-shape punches.
  • Suggest that guests give their cards impact with dimensional elements. To create a card that stands on its own, fold a long piece of card stock into two or three 1½-inch-high accordion folds. Glue or tape hearts to the fronts of the folds.
