Food Fundamentals
- Refrigerating melons and berries keeps them fresh, but because chilling diminishes their flavor, they taste better at room temperature. For richest flavor, remove them from the refrigerator about an hour (shorter time in hot weather) before serving.
- For a refreshing, no-cook treat, make a picture-perfect trifle with Publix Fresh Cut Fruit. In a straight-sided clear bowl, layer slices or chunks of Publix Bakery Angel Food or Crème Cake, white chocolate or vanilla instant pudding, Publix Fresh Cut Fruit, frozen whipped topping (thawed) or whipped cream. Repeat layers. Refrigerate for an hour or more before serving. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.
- For a delicious dessert, serve chocolate fondue. Pat Publix Fresh Cut Fruit chunks dry with paper towels. Pierce each piece of fruit with a bamboo stick, sturdy toothpick or fork; then dip fruit into melted chocolate.
- Spice-up dinner with colorful, fruity salsa. In a bowl, combine Publix Fresh Cut Fruit, diced sweet onion or scallions, chopped cilantro, salt and pepper, and a splash of orange or lime juice. Serve atop or along-side meat, fish or poultry.
- Over Publix European Salad Blend, arrange Publix Fresh Cut Fruit and cooked shrimp. Drizzle with honey mustard dressing. Sprinkle with toasted, slivered almonds. In place of shrimp, substitute strips of Publix Deli Rotisserie Chicken or Crisp Chicken Tenders.
