A delicious time of year is here. During June, July, August, and September, you'll find some of the year's best salmon, caught wild in the waters of Alaska and rushed fresh (never frozen) to your neighborhood Publix.

Naturally nutritious. Salmon contains EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids, not to mention vitamins D, B6, B12, and niacin.

Don't delay. All of these salmon varieties have fairly short seasons (outlined below). Be sure to enjoy them while they're here.
  • King Salmon: (Season: late May/June.) Characterized by a rich, buttery flavor and a delicate, tender texture, this fish comes from Alaskas Yukon, Copper, and Bering Rivers.
  • Sockeye Salmon: (Season: mid-July.) Caught in the pristine waters of Bristol Bay, Cook Inlet, and Prince William Sound, it has a rich flavor and firm, moist texture.
  • Arctic Keta Salmon: (Season: August.) From the Northwest Arctic Borough, this salmon tastes similar to Coho: It has a mild flavor and delicate texture.
  • Coho Salmon: (Season: September.) This has a moderate flavor compared to other fish, but for salmon, its taste is mild. It has a firm texture that flakes well. It comes to us from the Yakutat region in Alaska's southeast.
