This pale yellow sauvignon blanc has a good balance of melon and citrus flavors with crisp acidity. Its medium to long citrus and herbal finish makes this a great summer patio wine. Pairs well with shrimp tempura, soft cheeses or summer salads.

The Beginning

The roots of Kim Crawford Wines reach back to 1996 when Kim and his wife Erica fell in love with the idea of starting a winery. The Crawford's ran their company from a spare room of their home in Central Auckland, New Zealand. Without owning grapevines or tanks, Kim and Erica produced their first 4,000 cases and thereby established Kim Crawford Wines. With incredible speed, their powerful, aromatic wines began winning awards and gained a devoted, even fanatical, following. Only two years later launch, Kim Crawford Wines began exporting to the United States.

The Milestones

Just six years after these humble beginnings, Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc made the 2003 Wine Spectator's Top 100 List to roaring acclaim. It made the list again in 2005, 2006 and 2008. And it was also in 2008 that Wine Spectator awarded the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with a prestigious ranking of 90+ points…for the seventh year in a row

Wine Regions

New Zealand is a country defined by its beauty — a place know for soaring mountains that roll into grasslands surround by 10,000 miles of pristine coastline. New Zealands' majestic beauty is renoned throughout the world and now its vineyards are famous as well.

The grapes benefit from long days, clean sea breezes and crisp nights. In combination with New Zealand's long and dry autumn season, their grapes ripen slowly, which allows them to build flavor intensity as well as develop a sophisticated acidity. In the end, it is this unique combination of factors — from regions to soils, to temperatures and growth rates — that give this wine a perfect balance of fruit and acidity.

The Winemaker

Seasoned winemaker, Anthony Walkonhorst, join Kim Crawford in 2005, working alongside the found. The first wine Anthony made won the Sauvignon Blanc Trophy at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.

Anthony received his First Class Honors Bachelor of Agricultural Science Degree from the highly esteemed University of Adelaide in Southern Australia. He then traveled the vintage trail to work harvests from Australia to the Napa Valley but finally ended up in New Zealand.
