Why I Love Publix
Mickey,
District Manager
What does the perfect job look like to you? Is it one that serves your passion for helping people? Is it one that feeds your desire to advance in your career? Is it one that emphasizes a healthy lifestyle? Is it one that builds on your expertise with food?
If any or all of these are important to you, Publix GreenWise Market could meet your needs. We have developed a new store format that has the high standards of our traditional stores but with some specialized services, products and departments for customers seeking natural/organic foods, fresh prepared meals and environmentally friendly products.
Another difference is that Publix GreenWise Market stores will be staffed with associates who engage in an active lifestyle so they can relate to the customers these kind of stores are designed to attract.
You will be eligible for benefits nearly identical to what we offer in our traditional stores.
If you have job experience in any of the following areas, we would like to hear from you: wines, artisan cheese, vitamins or other supplements, scratch baking or decorating, knowledge of fresh meats, seafood, or natural/organic foods.

Why I Love Publix
Terry,
Pharmacy Manager
At the age of five, going door to door selling Rose Bud and Cloverine Salve to neighbors and friends, little did I know that the groundwork was being laid for my career as a pharmacist. Listening to their concerns about aches and pains, giving a smile or hug and saying, "Let me know if you need anything more," taught me patience and understanding of others.
Fulfilling my parents’ dream for one of five sons to obtain a college degree, I achieved that goal in 1969 from the University of Florida, College of Pharmacy. Years of working in my own pharmacy then taught me customer service and the satisfaction of going that extra mile – whether it be lending a listening ear, sharing a simple smile, going in a few minutes early or staying late, delivering prescriptions to invalid patients who cannot drive, and yes, even returning to the pharmacy after closing to give that much needed prescription.
Publix has allowed me to continue those early-learned values of concern and caring for people. In working for Publix, I have found that doing whatever it takes to help someone, be it customer or employee, is the PUBLIX WAY. Thank you to my parents and Publix for allowing me to serve others.

Why I Love Publix
Mirinda,
Assistant Bakery Manager
As a teen working part-time with Publix, I had become fond of the beautiful decorations on the tastiest cakes. I wondered to myself, “wow, if I could get back there and show them my artistic talent, I think Publix would benefit, and so would I!” That’s when I decided to become a Decorator.
I went to a culinary school where they have a program that helps kick-start your career. Publix was one of the companies that accepted graduates from this school. I was determined to pursue my goals and dreams, and I graduated!
In 2001, I was part of one of the greatest companies to work for. As time went by, I realized there was one thing the culinary school never taught me, and that was working with others. Publix taught me compassion, dignity and respect…basically, how you should treat family. I guess that’s where Publix got the term, “the Publix Family.”
Eight years later I’m now an Assistant Bakery Manager. I don’t know where the time has gone. I guess that’s because working at Publix is a pleasure.

Why I Love Publix
Essie,
Deli Manager
I am a Deli Manager, and I say that with great pride. I love working at the Publix Deli. It is very challenging, and I tackle each challenge with enthusiasm. I see everything as a growing experience. You get to meet people from all walks of life and learn new things about them.
There is always something going on, whether a party for graduation, a bar mitzvah, a first communion, a baptism – for any holiday gathering, and we are there and involved. I enjoy being able to help make someone's special day.
Teamwork is so important to be successful, and we really have that here at Publix. I am proud of my co-workers and managers because we always pull together to get the job done. I love interacting with our customers. You just never know how a simple smile and a, "Hi, how are you today" can brighten someone's day. I feel that every customer I deal with leaves a little brighter than when they came in.
I love the fact that I work for a company that allows me to talk to anyone in management if I have a problem. Publix has boundless opportunities for anyone who puts forth the effort. You can go as far as you want with our Company. My name is Essie and I LOVE PUBLIX.

Why I Love Publix
Ashley,
401(k) & Customer Service Supervisor
I began my career with Publix 23 years ago in the vegetable prep area at the Deli Plant. Since then I worked in a variety of departments from a shipping clerk to the Assistant to the Vice President of the Lakeland Division and now the 401(k) & Customer Service Supervisor in the Retirement area of Benefits. When I joined the Publix team I didn’t realize the endless opportunities ahead, not to mention the tremendous benefits available to associates.
One of the many benefits is our awesome retirement plan. Each year when I open my Benefits Statement, I can’t help but throw up my hands and yell, “Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!” All kidding aside, being part of Publix gives me a great sense of pride.
The most important benefit to me though, is the security I feel working for such a great organization. In my early years, I was able to support my daughter as a single mom and provide her with a home and a good, stable lifestyle. I was never worried about her healthcare because Publix offered such an outstanding insurance plan.
The opportunities are unlimited at Publix and even if you don’t have a specific career path, that’s okay; Publix has a way of putting you exactly where you need to be. I’m living proof.
There are a lot of places to “work” but at Publix, you’re part of the Family. As a shareholder, you’re also an owner. There aren’t many places that offer this benefit. Simply stated, Publix is a GREAT place to work!

Why I Love Publix
Cherie,
Office Manager and Assistant to the V.P. of Fresh Products
When I moved to Florida, I knew nothing about Publix. When I began shopping there, I found clean stores and friendly, knowledgeable help. That inspired me to apply at Publix, especially since I knew the corporate office wasn’t far from where I lived. I was hired as a Clerk II in Accounts Payable, was promoted to Secretary II for a Regional Director, and now am Office Manager and Assistant to a Vice President where I handle administrative duties for our Fresh Products area. That includes managing Hourly Support 3 associates and coordinating the efforts of the Business Development Director assistants.
Publix lives up to its Mission Statement of being “Dedicated to the Dignity, Value and Employment Security of their Associates.” I especially like that we promote from within and help develop our associates to succeed. I have always been treated with the utmost respect and dignity. Each day I am thanked for my time!
After 18 years I still enjoy coming to work every day, and am truly grateful that Publix allowed me to be part of their family! I am always eager and proud to say, “I work for Publix.”

Why I Love Publix
Joey,
Paint & Décor Supervisor
It clicked! I remember that day so vividly. There it was before me, a piece of paper on the floor that I would have passed up previously, but now felt was my responsibility to pick up. Our manager had recently spoken to us about ownership. “You are stockholders, you own this company,” he told us. From that day forward I would treat this job as if I owned the company. And I do!
At Publix, you not only have a place to work and a career to build, but you become owners of the company. We are the largest employee-owned supermarket chain in the nation. I work in Facility Services, the department responsible for keeping our retail stores maintained, clean and inviting; upholding the Publix tradition. My responsibilities include interior décor, signage and environments, but there are many other areas within our Facilities group that provide career opportunities.
My 32 years with Publix have been fun and rewarding. Publix has provided me with a great career. I will always be thankful for the opportunity to work for the best supermarket company in America. Come join the family and let it click for you!

Why I Love Publix
Ed Crenshaw,
CEO
Everyone knows Publix is a supermarket chain that delivers premiere customer service. But did you know that Publix is also:
- a large manufacturing company
- a major distribution operator
- an enormous transportation network, and
- a major technology user?
There are so many different career options at Publix that many of our associates end up doing things they never would have imagined.
We have a Business Development Director who started as a full-time decorator in the bakery at one of our stores. She now oversees the strategy and development of all Publix bakeries.
We have a Distribution Center Manager overseeing 800 associates who began his career here as a rail car unloader.
We have a Regional Director in charge of more than 80 stores (and 14,000 associates) who bagged groceries when he started with Publix.
The success stories aren't limited to associates who started in entry-level positions, either. Some originally hired to fill mid-level positions such as Loss Prevention Specialist, Pharmacist and Accountant later advanced into leadership positions.
My point is, we build careers at Publix. We hire talented people and we invest in their future. Please consider joining our team if you want to pave the way for a succession of exciting professional challenges.

Why I Love Publix
Richard,
Director, Corporate Facility Services
As a Director I love working for Publix because I’ve been given so much latitude to make improvements, influence change, and provide support to a company whose primary focus is grocery retailing. Everyday our departments have the ability to positively or negatively impact our company’s operations. This is very motivating to me.
As an associate I love working for Publix because of our rich heritage and the opportunity to work with so many talented people, continuing to follow in the footsteps of those who left the company in better shape than when they first arrived.
In my experience most associates relate to our great profit sharing and stock performance, while few may know about our numerous job opportunities. Facility Services alone has more than 500 associates in 100 different job classes that focus on technical support, purchasing, administration, parts replenishment, warehousing, project coordination and management. Flexibility to transition your career personally and professionally makes Publix a great place to work.

Why I Love Publix
Marcy,
Diversity Manager
I fondly remember going to Publix every Saturday as a child with my mom. However, I will admit that I never thought about working for Publix, as I had no knowledge of the vast opportunities at Publix. While attending graduate school in 1992, I took a summer job working for Publix in the Accounting Department, which turned into a part-time position year-round.
After graduating with my Masters Degree in 1993, I planned to move to Dallas, Texas to start my career. As I was preparing to leave, three long-term Publix associates intervened and began discussions with me regarding the opportunities available at Publix. I changed my mind and decided to give Publix a closer look. In 1994, I moved to the Human Resources Department where I have held various positions. In 2001, I became the Manager of Associate Diversity for Publix.
One of the things I love about Publix is our commitment to attracting and retaining diverse associates. As a Publix associate, I am able to share my ideas and make suggestions regarding diversity management. This means a lot to me as I am able to contribute to the success of this great organization. The most exciting thing about Publix is its people. Since this is an employee-owned company we all share a common goal of seeing our company succeed.
During my career with Publix many great people mentored me, and my goal is to mentor and develop as many Publix associates as I can.

Why I Love Publix
Josh,
Divisional Loss Prevention Manager
I started working for Publix in 2001, and still remember my first day. I was scared, nervous and unsure if I had made the right decision to leave my last job; all of the things that any normal person would think about. I had been with a major retail department store chain for almost 10 years before joining Publix, but it took only one day to realize that this is a family, not just a workplace.
In 2006 I was promoted to my current position as the Divisional Loss Prevention Manager for the Miami Division. My seven-plus years of service here are short compared to many Publix associates who have been here more than 20 years.
When you get up every morning and go to work, are you going someplace that you can’t wait for the end of the day to come, or someplace that the day goes by too quickly? I think we spend most of our lives thinking that “the grass is greener on the other side,” and sometimes we are disappointed because we find that is not true. However, the grass was greener for me at Publix and I believe that would be the same for you.
At Publix we take pride in treating each other with dignity and respect, and it’s a great feeling. One of my responsibilities is to protect the assets of Publix, including our associates, My Family!

Why I Love Publix
Scott,
Engineering Team Lead
I began my career at Publix as an Industrial Engineer. Previously I had lived my entire life in New York and had no familiarity with Publix or its history, culture and values. Nonetheless Publix gave me a chance when they hired me in 2000.
Later that year I became unexpectedly and critically ill. Confined to a wheelchair, and in and out of hospitals, I missed a few months of work. With friends and family more than 1,500 miles away, life took a challenging turn for me.
That's when Publix showed me what it's all about. My department took up collections. My co-workers helped me with errands and provided dinners. While on bed rest, they even sent me "Scott's Office in a Box," a box filled with goodies, Blockbuster cards and notes from the group. Little did I realize Publix was becoming another family to me.
Since then Publix has consistently shown its faith and trust in me and my abilities by giving me added responsibilities and frequent promotions. No doubt Publix’s leadership position in the industry, its growth potential and the challenging projects we work on are all exciting reasons to be thankful for being a member of this company. But it’s the personal touch that makes this place even more special. My experience shows that Publix can take a complete outsider and adopt him as one of its own – that’s why Publix will always be "A Great Place to Work!"

Why I Love Publix
Debbie,
Manager of Projects Benefits Administration
I had always been envious of individuals fortunate enough to work for Publix. I thought it was great that Publix shared its profits with its associates, valuing them enough to make them owners in the company.
I heard the stories about Mr. George’s philosophy for taking care of his associates. You see, having worked in benefits most of my career, I understand the value of company ownership and how rare it is in today’s world. As my retirement plan was being replaced by a 401(k) with a minimal match, I hoped that someday I too would have an opportunity to work for Publix.
That opportunity came in 2001 when I was hired to work for Publix as Manager of Group Benefits. Later I was promoted to Project Manager and then to my current position of Manager of Projects for Benefits Administration, where I am responsible for leading the activities of strategic and benefits-critical project management initiatives; technical support and education, training and development functions for the benefits business area including Retirement, Group Benefits and Stockholder Services departments. I also work with outside vendors, consultants and other benefit professionals, and I hear all the time how envious they are because they know Publix is such a great place to work.
Now rather than being envious, I’m the one who can say how truly proud I am to be part of this great organization.

Why I Love Publix
Debbie,
Manager of Strategic Programs
I started my career with Publix in 1992, after graduating from the University of South Florida. In 1996, my daughter Hannah was born. Upon returning to work from maternity leave, I enrolled my daughter in the Publix Childcare Center. Of all the benefits I’ve come to enjoy here over the years, the on-site child care facility was my favorite. I felt comfortable knowing that my Publix family was watching my daughter and that she was close to me. I was able to join her for lunches, attend her special events (e.g., parades and holiday celebrations), and ride to and from work with her everyday.
After 17 years with Publix, I still find that my job gets more interesting each day. Not only do I get to work for one of the best companies in America, I also get to work in a fast-paced, multi-faceted industry. Many people are surprised to learn of the multitude of business operations here at Publix, such as Real Estate, Construction, Purchasing, Human Resources and Information Systems. In my current position, I get to work with all of them. As a Strategic Program Manager in the Strategy Support department, I lead initiatives that span across all areas of our business. I work on the projects that help Publix carry out our strategy and define our path for the future.
Being part of the Publix family is very rewarding. We are proud of our company and what we have built together.

Why I Love Publix
Tanya,
Marketing/Advertising Manager
I began my career at Publix more than 12 years ago at the recommendation of a Publix Vice President. From the very beginning, Publix has provided me with an environment filled with knowledgeable, positive, focused associates working together to help me succeed.
Publix has provided the training and resources to establish the strong skills and deep knowledge required to succeed in my role. There are role models at every level of the company, from hourly store associates to corporate managers, directors and vice presidents. All of them set the example of what excellent service means for both our internal and external customers.
Employment at Publix is about more than earning a living. It’s about providing encouragement for associates to think strategically and act ethically on the company’s behalf. It’s about reinforcing the American work ethic, uplifting the values of my family and my community, and enabling me to strengthen my skills and knowledge in a variety of areas.
Publix allows me to work creatively to maximize my talents and strengths. It affords me the opportunity to work with talented, experienced people who make our company the great institution it is today. It enriches my life and the lives of those with whom I work by allowing us to work differently in support of a common goal.
I love working at Publix because employment here provides diversity, creativity, challenges and opportunity to a diverse group of associates focused on a common perspective.

As I reflect on my 28 years with Publix, I'm amazed at what a wonderful and exciting company this is. From my start as a part-time bagger to my current role as President, I'm just one of thousands with a personal story about making Publix a lifetime career.
Publix is 78 years old, and still an exciting place to work. We have a reputation for continual growth and innovation, both of which feed the many employment opportunities at Publix. We hire more than 40,000 new associates each year for our traditional stores, but we also provide employment opportunities in our support facilities and in the new ventures we pursue. Some of those new ventures include the following:
- Publix Greenwise Markets, our new natural/organic stores for those who dream of a greener world.
- Publix PIX, our convenience store channel.

Why I Love Publix
Merriann,
Real Estate Attorney
Although I only joined Publix as an attorney in 2006, I became a loyal Publix customer at a very young age. As a child, I always looked forward to my Saturday visits to Store #96 in Clearwater, FL. As a reward for good behavior, my brother, sister and I were allowed to collectively select a dozen donuts and one piece of candy each Saturday morning. True to the Publix way, the Publix associates were always smiling, friendly and helpful - one even asked me to be a flower girl in her wedding! This comes as no surprise to me now, knowing that Publix customers consistently rate their satisfaction with us the highest in the supermarket industry. Little did I know that one day the path of my career would lead to Publix.
After graduating from law school and practicing law for four years, I was honored to have the opportunity to join the Publix family. As an attorney for Publix, I enjoy a varied practice, primarily supporting the real estate department, working on sophisticated acquisitions, liquor regulatory matters as well as negotiating/drafting leases and declarations. In the time I have been with Publix, I have had the pleasure of working beside the brightest, most supportive and hardest working people of my career. That alone makes me excited and proud to come to work every morning. All in all, I could not imagine a more interesting and satisfying job and could not be more proud to work for and be part owner of such an extraordinary company. |

Why I Love Publix
Bob,
Real Estate Manager
During my career at Publix – which has spanned roles as a Meat Cutter, Assistant Meat Manager, Meat Manager and Assistant Store Manager – Publix’s tuition reimbursement program helped me earn a Bachelor’s Degree. The encouragement and cooperation I received from my peers and managers as I pursued that degree, and later an MBA, solidified my long-term commitment to Publix. This support for self-development is just one of the company’s values that are in line with my own values.
Something else I appreciate is how Publix celebrates teamwork without hampering individuality. Within the Real Estate Department, you will find associates with diverse backgrounds, skill sets, talents and experience. This diversity is one reason I thoroughly enjoy working here.
As a Real Estate Manager, I am responsible for the development and deployment of a Real Estate strategy for a specific geographic area. That strategy includes selection of sites for new stores as well as determination of the long-term strategy for existing stores. In this capacity, I have the opportunity to meet with landowners, landlords, developers, public officials and other retailers. They always tell me stories about why and how much they respect our company and our associates; from the forthright way we do business to the contributions we make to our community. Because Publix is so well respected, I am honored to be affiliated with this company.

Why I Love Publix
Leann,
Real Estate Manager
My career at Publix began after being a stay-at-home Mom for many years. Moving to Lakeland where the Publix corporate office is located provided me an opportunity to seek employment with a well-respected company. I was familiar with Publix as a shopper and appreciated the clean, customer-friendly atmosphere.
Now I am amazed at how quickly the 19 years I’ve been a Publix associate have passed. Having been promoted five times in my career is testimony that hard work and dedication is recognized and appreciated at Publix!
As a Real Estate Manager, I am responsible for identifying new Publix locations for the west coast of Florida. It’s very rewarding to be part of the Real Estate Department because it is so instrumental to the company’s growth and success. Early in my career, Publix was only operating in Florida. We have since expanded into Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. The expansion of our company into these markets is exciting and positions us well for future growth.
In today’s economic climate, when many businesses are failing, I am grateful that 19 years ago I joined a company that provides job stability, opportunity for advancement and great benefits.
As you can probably tell from this testimonial, I am proud to be on the Publix team where I consider working a pleasure!

You might be surprised at the wide range of employment opportunities we offer at Publix. Everyone knows we hire bakers, meat cutters, cashiers, baggers and stockers. We actually have more than 30 different hourly positions and more than a dozen different management positions in our stores.

With a team of more than 140,000 associates, there is plenty of opportunity at Publix as long as you have high standards, a passion for people and the drive to make a real difference.

Why I Love Publix
Kimberly,
Secretary for Strategic Support
Let me count the reasons why I love my job at Publix.
First I can say I am a part of the Publix family. I had the opportunity to start my Publix career as a cashier, where I learned firsthand the business at a store level. I later advanced to corporate where I received a different perspective of the company. I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment in my position because I have both perspectives. I also take great satisfaction in knowing that I’m at one of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For.
Second is the endless list of benefits. Not only do I enjoy my vacation time, but also the financial security from continuous employment at Publix. The awesome opportunities to purchase company stock, have access to health and retirement plans, and let's not forget those little extra fringe benefits such as automotive, electronics, travel, attractions and wireless cell phone savings.
Third I love my job because I am a part of the Strategy Support department. Our department touches every aspect of Publix. That makes each day very interesting.
Fourth I enjoy working with fellow associates of the Publix team. We learn together, we have fun together and when it comes to the end result, we can all say we had a part in it.
I take great pride in my job and enjoy sharing the reasons why I work for Publix.

Why I Love Publix
Lori,
Senior Attorney
After completing law school and watching many of my friends frustrated by the high pressure and long hours of work at law firms, I knew that was not for me. So I looked for a company where I could have a challenging legal career, but still lead a balanced life. I found exactly that and more at Publix.
I draft and negotiate contracts for all aspects of our operations including purchasing, marketing, manufacturing, retail, information systems, facilities and much more. I am able to work on such a wide variety of projects, that every day brings something more fascinating than the day before.
In my seven years with Publix, I have worked with some of the most passionate, hard working and interesting people that I have ever met. More importantly they have become my friends, my family and my community. The flexibility, camaraderie and support that I have felt from both my peers and management is a true testimonial to the wonderful environment at Publix. I could not have imagined a more interesting, fun and satisfying job.

Why I Love Publix
Anthony,
Senior Training Developer
In the summer of 1980, I started as a part-time associate in the Housewares warehouse, viewing Publix as a temporary means to a greater end. No way did I intend to become a "Publix lifer."
However, 12 years later I found myself still employed with Publix after being promoted to the position of Quality Improvement Facilitator in the Lakeland Dairy Processing Plant. During this period in my personal life, I didn't always make the best decisions which resulted in a lot of emotional pain and financial distress. Luckily, at the time, I worked for a Plant Manager who not only cared about me as his associate but made me feel as if I was a member of his own family.
He was a hard business man with extremely high expectations. Yet, he realized the importance of the human side of the equation as well. At the end of the each work day, he always took the time to talk to me about life outside of Publix. He knew when to question and he knew when to let me talk. Most importantly, he knew how to let me figure it out on my own.
It was during this time that I realized what this company is all about. Publix is not in the grocery business....Publix is in the business of taking care of people. That's why 26 years later I'm glad to say that I'm still employed by Publix Supermarkets.

Why I Love Publix
Maria,
Systems Analyst
Arriving from Panama in 1988, I was eager to embark upon the American Dream. I had a driving ambition to join a great company and build a life-long career. Seeking out Publix was natural since I’d always been a satisfied customer, and I decided to apply during a recruiting effort at Florida State University. One week after graduating in 1990, I began working as a Programmer Trainee. It’s been nearly 19 years since, and an absolute joy.
I’ve held positions such as Programmer Analyst, Senior Programmer Analyst, Systems Analyst/Programmer, Systems Analyst, Project Leader, and in recent years a Single Point Owner (SPO) for key initiatives. I’ve truly enjoyed contributing to the successful implementation of mission critical applications at Publix.
The best part is the chance to be with the most amazing associates in the world - they always strive for that extra effort. I experience this daily from every part of the company. Associates at my neighborhood Publix know me by name and make my shopping experience a pleasure every time. Recently I approached the seafood department to order a platter, but I was late in ordering - it wouldn’t have been received by Christmas Eve. That did not get in their way. They let me know I’d have my platter even if they needed to drive to other stores.
If you enjoy working with leading-edge technologies, learning a variety of complex applications in a multi-platform environment, and have a big desire to make a difference, Publix is for you, too.

Why I Love Publix
Maria,
Training Specialist
Little did I think when I started with Publix 16 years ago that I would be still working here. It was my first job right out of high school and my first paycheck. My goal at the time was to find a company that could provide flexible hours so I could attend college. I started as a Cashier, moved up to Customer Service, and was then promoted to Back Office Cashier in less than 18 months; and that was while attending college.
As I started making friends and learning more about the company, I began to realize this was more than a part-time job and that I wanted to build a career at Publix. It is a solid company that provides associate recognition, excellent benefits, a flexible schedule, good training and my favorite – the opportunity to grow.
I really appreciate the promote-from-within philosophy. I had the opportunity to work as a House Wares Clerk, Health and Beauty Clerk, Back Door Receiving Clerk, Training Coordinator, District Trainer and Centralized Orientation Facilitator. When needed I helped make floral arrangements, deli platters and displays for our stores. It’s great to be able to test your own skills and to show what you can do.
In my current position as a Training Specialist for the Miami division, it’s so easy for me to train managers about what Publix is about because I am proud of my company. I feel proud to introduce myself as a Publix associate wherever I go because I always hear, “WOW, that’s a great company!”

Why I Love Publix
Karen,
Front Line Supervisor
Middle aged and ready for a change in my career, I felt I needed a new job. After all, I had been working for another retail company for 20 years and didn’t have a lot to show for it. The company had been bought out several times, fallen into bankruptcy, and had no retirement or stock plan. Management changes were rampant and you never knew from one day to the next if you were going to lose your job. My husband kept telling me that I should come to work for Publix and reassured me that there were lots of opportunities to grow with his company. (He had been growing for the previous 23 years).
So when Publix offered me a job in June of 2005, I pounced on the opportunity! I became a Distribution Operator in the Produce Warehouse on night shift. That was new for me, as I had always worked days and always worked on the retail side of the business. Much to my surprise, I soon became a night owl, sometimes working into the early morning to be sure that we delivered fresh produce to all stores seven days a week.
While in the Produce Warehouse, I learned why everyone loved working at Publix. Not only did they own part of the company, they took pride in working for their company. The Publix spirit rubbed off on me and I became a true Publix associate as well. I was elated when I received my first Christmas bonus, first dividend check and first benefits statement. After all, that was something Publix gave me just because I was an associate. It made me realize what a great company Mr. George had created before I came along and what a great management team he put in place to keep everything going just the way he planned. Good solid management, that’s what I call it!
Two years and several nightshifts later, I knew that I wanted to grow with Publix. I posted for a Front Line Supervisor opening and was chosen. I was given the opportunity to be a supervisor in the Produce Warehouse, where I am today. I feel very secure in my job as I am surrounded by people who have my best interests at heart. We have all seen the positive changes in our company geared toward the slow economy and I feel very secure in knowing that our management team has provided us with such a solid foundation. As usual, we are taking care of our customers and our associates at the same time. At Publix, that is the way it’s always been and the way it will always be.

Why I Love Publix
Rico,
Strategic Supply Chain Modeler
I always enjoy telling people how my job at Publix turned into a career. Seven years ago Publix opened a new store near my house, and initially it seemed like a good place for a high school student to earn spending money. I knew Publix had a reputation for clean stores, excellent customer service and great sub sandwiches, but never did I imagine that Publix would provide me endless career opportunities.
I started as a Cashier, but quickly gained interest in other positions around the store. From Bakery Clerk to Office Cashier and Office Staff, Publix continually opened doors for me. I became a Centralized Orientation Facilitator, where I shared the aspect of Publix I love the most—the opportunities. After three years in Retail, I seized the opportunities I told new associates about and accepted a position in the Atlanta Produce Warehouse. Other opportunities arose over the years, and I now work in Corporate Distribution Systems Support, where I can share my knowledge with our entire Distribution Network.
With each opportunity I learn more about the amazing things Publix does everyday to ensure we achieve our mission of being the premier quality food retailer in the world. Outside of work Publix helps me pursue my education through our Tuition Reimbursement Program. It’s a win-win situation. I improve my knowledge and skills, and Publix gets a more educated associate. With my Bachelor of Business Administration degree in hand, I look forward to the next opportunity that Publix provides me.

Why I Love Publix
Gaye,
Senior Department Manager, Bakery
I am very proud to say that I have worked for Publix for 24 years! I was 17 years old and had just graduated from Auburndale High School when my uncle, who already worked for Publix, encouraged me to get a job at the Bakery Plant. I was just looking for something until I decided what I wanted to do with my life. Little did I know that my temporary job was the beginning of a fantastic and rewarding career.
I began as temporary Christmas help, and was hired fulltime as soon as I turned 18. I worked the night shift for several years and had the opportunity to become a Machine Operator on a variety of equipment. I eventually earned a promotion to Line Leader and then Foreman.
The time I spent working night shift was a challenge, but it also gave me my first glimpse of how dedicated Publix associates are. I was utterly amazed that people worked all night to bake and pack sweets and desserts for all the Publix stores!
After 10 years with this incredible company, I accepted the position of Department Manager. In 2006, I was promoted to Senior Department Manager, which is the position I currently hold.
I’m living proof of the opportunities that Publix offers its associates. The first thing I tell my new associates at orientation is that with initiative, hard work and dedication, you can go anywhere you want in Publix.
