Opportunities in Our New Stores

New Stores

Is a new Publix being built in your area?

Publix opens nearly 50 new stores each year, and with that expansion comes additional employment opportunities. If you've seen a new Publix store under construction, you may wonder how you can apply to work there. Watch for recruiting signs in the store's windows. They will provide instructions on where and when to apply.

Applying for Non-Management positions

Our normal practice for staffing new stores is to begin accepting applications for all non-management positions three to four weeks prior to the store's opening. Therefore, the recruiting signs are posted in the new store shortly before that.

In most instances, those signs will direct job seekers to apply at a Job Application Center in one or more nearby Publix stores. The location of the existing stores that will be accepting applications for the new store will be included on the sign. Applications can be submitted anytime during normal store hours.

When you apply at the Job Application Center, you won't be asked to specify which store you want to work at because your application will be visible both to managers of the new store and managers of the store where you are applying. This allows Publix to fill staffing needs at both stores simultaneously, although the new store will have the greatest number of openings.

Watch For Job Fairs

In some instances, Publix hosts a job fair to allow job seekers to complete applications and to be interviewed on the spot by store managers. These events are advertised in the local newspaper as well as on signs at the new store and signs at the neighboring stores accepting applications for the new store.

Where and When to Apply For Management Positions

Transferring managers from our other stores fill most management positions in a new store. That way we ensure that each new store will continue our best practices in customer service, product quality and effective operation. However, we occasionally hire external candidates for one or two management positions. You can express your interest in serving as a manager in a new store in the same way you express your interest in serving as a manager in our existing stores. For details, see Store Management Opportunities.

Where are the new stores?

If you haven't seen a new Publix under construction but wonder if there is one in your area, go to our New Store Openings list. The list doesn't offer recruiting information as far in advance as the recruiting signs on the windows of new stores, but the list sometimes includes stores that are still looking for applicants. The best way to check whether a store still needs new associates is to look for the recruiting signs in that store's windows.
