There is abundant opportunity to advance your career at Publix. More than 9,500 associates are promoted each year into positions leading to management, and more than 2,100 associates are promoted into management positions at our stores. Hundreds more are promoted into corporate, distribution and manufacturing roles in the company.

These promotions not only reward associates with bigger paychecks and holiday bonuses, they also make first-time managers eligible for retail quarterly bonuses. Average earnings range from $44,900 per year for entry-level managers to $112,911 per year for Store Managers.

And the higher an associate’s pay, the more shares of company stock that associate receives in a retirement account at no cost. The accumulating value of this account is a major incentive to stay at Publix for a long time!

Just as important, these promotions provide every associate with exciting, new learning opportunities that prepare them for additional responsibility down the line.

Promoting from Within

While we occasionally hire outside candidates to fill management positions, most promotions are made from within because we want to be sure our managers are fully aware of our standards, our best practices, and our culture.

That doesn’t mean outside candidates with supermarket management experience have to start in an entry-level position. They may be hired into positions leading to management, making them eligible to be considered for management positions in as little as six months.

How To Apply

When we have management opportunities for outside candidates, we only consider individuals who have worked in a food retail setting (preferably a supermarket) and who have management experience. If you meet both of these criteria, please email one of the Retail Staffing Specialists listed below along with your resume and the geographic area in which you prefer to work.

Your qualifications will be reviewed by the Retail Staffing Specialist. If there are employment opportunities available, your information will be forwarded to the appropriate hiring manager. If he or she believes your skills and experience match a current opening, you will be contacted.

Why I Love Publix

Meat Manager

I started at Publix as a clean-up boy in the meat department when I was 19 years old. I knew right away that I wanted to make the meat department my living. I enjoyed the atmosphere. It was hard work but when you love what you do, it's not work at all.

I've been a Meat Manager now for 10 years, and I was right. This is where I belong. What keeps me going is being able to train and develop other associates, being a positive influence on their careers, and helping them advance at Publix. I cherish this opportunity so much that when I retire, I will be able to look back and know that I helped others, like so many had helped me.

I plan to stay with Publix for a long time to come. I may even work to become an Assistant Store Manager.

Another wonderful benefit of having worked for Publix is that I met my beautiful wife here. So I thank Publix for what I have, not only in material assets but in family too.
