Publix's warehouses, such as Boxed Meat/Dairy, Frozen Food and Produce are refrigerated and must maintain specific temperatures to store our refrigerated and frozen products. Refrigeration Mechanics maintain our refrigeration and air conditioning for these warehouses to keep them operating efficiently and safely. These Distribution facilities are located in Florida (Jacksonville and Deerfield Beach).
Contributions
Refrigeration Mechanics perform systematic preventive maintenance that incorporates industry best practices. They also troubleshoot and repair a variety of industrial refrigerant equipment, such as compressors, condensers, evaporators and pumps. The Mechanics read and interpret blue prints, schematics, and technical manuals. They also have a strong understanding of the proper handling and recycling processes for chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), hydrochlorocarbon (HCFC), and ammonia refrigerants. Furthermore, they use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to generate and process the maintenance repairs performed.
Qualifications we look for
The required qualifications differ somewhat depending on the specific equipment in each facility. They also differ depending on the level of responsibility for a particular position. In general, however, most of our Refrigeration Mechanics must have:
- experience in industrial refrigeration equipment maintenance
- an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608 certification
- capability of generating and processing work on a computerized maintenance-management system
- mechanical, electrical, electronic and diagnostic knowledge of industrial refrigeration equipment
- working knowledge of program logic controllers
- medical clearance to wear respiratory protection
