Fleet Maintenance Mechanic

The Fleet Maintenance Mechanics keep our tractors and trailers traveling the millions of miles they cover to make deliveries to stores in hundreds of cities.

To Apply

Contributions

Fleet Maintenance Mechanics perform systematic preventive maintenance by inspecting items on the tractors such as the fan belts, oil levels, transmission fluid, air filter, wind shield and the rooflines and panels of trailers. They also troubleshoot problems and make repairs when necessary. The Mechanics work to make sure they are performing this maintenance according to Publix policy, government regulations, manufacturer requirements, as well as their own personal knowledge of fleet vehicles and equipment. Starting pay rates depend on a mechanic's knowledge and experience. Future pay increases are based on performance. Shift assignments generally depend on a mechanic's length of service in each Distribution facility.

Qualifications we look for

The required qualifications differ somewhat depending on the specific equipment in each facility. They also differ depending on the level of responsibility for a particular position. In general, however, most of our Fleet Maintenance Mechanics must:

  • Possess a valid Class "A" Commercial Drivers License (within 90 days of his or her start date in the position)
  • Have basic knowledge of welding techniques on aluminum and steel
  • Have experience with medium/heavy duty trucks or trade school
