The Real Estate Department is responsible for finding new store locations and—like the products in our stores—only the best locations will do for Publix customers. Hundreds of sites are reviewed annually but only a few meet the high standards required to be a future Publix store location. The same high standards exist in property management of our 900-plus leased locations and our 100-plus owned stores and centers. Providing Publix customers with attractive, safe, clean, and convenient properties, with a synergistic tenant mix, is our mission.
Our Team Structure
The Real Estate Department is comprised of four teams: Asset Management, Market Strategy, Real Estate, and Administration.
The Asset Management team is responsible for overall management of the Real Estate portfolio owned by Publix. This includes leasing vacant tenant space, addressing property management issues, and acquiring and disposing of properties. This team's focus is on company-owned real estate and the disposing of closed stores.
The Market Strategy team is responsible for creating market strategy, which includes identifying property to lease or buy, recommending remodels for existing stores, and replacing antiquated facilities.
The Real Estate team assumes the role as liaison between landlords of leased store sites, and our stores at those sites. This includes resolving problems such as roof leaks, potholes, and inoperable parking lot lights. This team also manages the store remodel cycle process and deals with governmental issues concerning real estate.
The Administration team provides support to the Vice President and to all Real Estate associates in the areas of payroll, benefits, training, and supplies.
Our Positions
Those interested in pursuing a career in Real Estate have numerous opportunities at Publix. We often fill our positions by promoting from within, but we do hire outside candidates as well. After six months of continuous employment, a Real Estate associate may move into another position within the department. After 12 months, a Real Estate associate may apply for openings in other parts of the company.
