Saucy 'Shroom Onion Cheeseburgers
Ingredients
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
5 ounces pre-sliced onions (1 cup)
4 ounces pre-sliced baby portabella mushrooms (rinsed)
2 tablespoons steak sauce
4 (6-ounce) ground chuck patties
6 slices American cheese
1/2 cup ranch salad dressing
3/4 teaspoon Dijon mustard
4 teaspoons mayonnaise
4 hamburger buns
Steps
- Preheat grill. Preheat large sauté pan on medium-high 2–3 minutes. Place butter in pan; swirl to coat. Add onions, mushrooms, and steak sauce; cook 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until softened and browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Place burgers on grill (wash hands); close lid (or cover loosely with foil). Grill 3–5 minutes on each side or until internal temperature reaches 155°F (for medium). Use a meat thermometer to accurately ensure doneness. (Grills vary widely; adjust time as needed.)
Note: Burgers may be cooked in grill pan preheated on medium-high. Lightly coat pan with canola oil. Cook time will be about the same.
- Place cheese slices, ranch dressing, and mustard in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH 60–90 seconds, stirring twice, or until cheese melts and sauce can be blended.
- Spread mayonnaise on both halves of buns. Place burgers on bottom halves of buns; top each with onion mixture and then cheese sauce. Assemble and serve.
