LAKELAND, Fla., Feb. 18, 2010 – On Feb. 15 a courier vehicle was stolen outside of a Publix Super Market located at 3821 S Nova Rd; Port Orange, Fla. The courier company, Alpha Logistics Service, is contracted to pick-up store mail for return to Publix’s corporate offices. The stolen vehicle contained mail bags from 21 Publix stores.
The Port Orange Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
“As a result of this information, we immediately launched an internal investigation, primarily focused on identifying the contents within the mail bags,” said Maria Brous Publix director of media and community relations. “We regret this situation and out of an abundance of precaution, we have urged our associates at our 21 locations, who may have submitted sensitive information, to monitor their credit report for unusual activity. We are making the same recommendation to our customers who may have completed a Western Union transaction or paid for their purchase manually via a carbon copy credit card authorization slip.”
