Publix Super Markets Purchases Pie Plant in Atlanta

LAKELAND, Fla., Aug. 18, 2003 - Publix Super Markets Inc. has purchased a pie plant in Atlanta from Country Home Bakers. The purchase includes an 115,000-square-foot bakery plant, equipment and land.

Publix anticipates beginning operations at the plant in December and having full production after the first of the year. The pie plant will produce several varieties of pies, including a full line of fruit, custard and dessert pies.

"This state-of-the-art facility contains modern equipment and will continue to allow Publix to support its retail bakery operations with a high-quality line of pies," said Vice President of Manufacturing Scott Charlton. "We're very excited about adding this operation to our business to better serve our customers."

The plant is located at 5475 Bucknell Dr. SW. Publix currently operates one bakery processing plant in Lakeland, Fla.
